PEOPLECERT

The new school year is starting and City & Guilds is welcoming you back to school and is participating in the upcoming events in both Athens and Thessaloniki. In chronological order we will be participating in the ELT Forum, PALSO Thessaloniki event and the International Publishers Exhibitions. We would also like to inform you of some minor changes in the City & Guilds ESOL and ISESOL tests.

The test changes illustrated in the summary table below,  are not extensive and have not affected the overall assessment objectives or even the structure of the tasks that candidates are asked to complete,. We have nevertheless published a full set of three new sample practice papers per level to help you get an accurate idea of what the new format is like. You can find and download all the new practice papers for all levels at www.cityandguilds.gr but for your convenience we will distribute one paper for each of levels B1 to C2 level in a booklet that will be available in the autumn exhibitions.

Changes

ISESOL Exams

The ISESOL (Speaking) Exams have remained structurally the same: the same format, the same number of tasks and the same question types will continue to be used, but more time will be available to the learners so that the pressure is minimised and they can perform to the best of their ability. Thus, the duration of the spoken exams is now as follows:

B1: 12 minutes | B2: 13 minutes | C1: 15 minutes | C2: 17 minutes

IESOL Exams

In all of the exams, at all levels, the multiple choice questions in both the listening and the reading sections now have three options rather than four. In addition, the overall number of questions has been slightly reduced, to allow learners more time to process the listening and reading input while spending less time processing the questions!

In addition, the following changes have been made to levels B1 and C1:

B1 Achiever

The first writing task has now been removed, so that learners only have to produce two texts in the writing section; in line with the rest of the levels, B1 now has only two writing tasks.

C1 Expert

Reading Part 4 now requires the learners to answer eight open-ended questions rather than including one more multiple choice task; the task structure is therefore now the same across all levels.

The City & Guilds team will be happy to meet, assist and inform you further of those changes at our stands in the upcoming exhibitions. Fo your convenience, the schedule of all the events is as follows:
