Every year City & Guilds awards over 50% of all "National Vocational Qualifications" in the UK. On the international scene, City & Guilds is active in over 100 countries, while it works closely with government officials to create and establish qualifications that fortify local/national qualifications.
Qualification programmes outside the UK are called IVQs (International Vocational Qualifications) and have been designed to measure candidates’ theoretical knowledge as well as their practical skills, so that they can meet the demands of any job. They have been designed for the global marketplace and cover a very broad range of professional fields, such as hairdressing, beauty therapy, tourism, telecommunications and retailing, among many others.
What are IVQs
International Vocational Qualifications (IVQs) are qualifications certifying skills at the post-secondary and undergraduate level of training that have been specially designed for the global marketplace. They are designed in collaboration with employers and experts, testing expertise and skills in terms of both theory and practice.
They arm holders with efficiency in the field of their choice, helping them to find immediate employment in the job market. IVQs are recognized in over 100 countries and afford excellent opportunities for professional development.
They are available at three (3) levels:
Certificate,
Diploma and
Advanced Diploma.
IVQs target people who:
- are seeking employment and wish to have their skills and expertise certified so they can achieve their goals.
- are already employed and wish to obtain additional skills that will qualify them for the promotion that will advance their careers.

Over 70 universities in the UK recognize that the City & Guilds qualifications meet the necessary academic standards for prompt admission of applicants to their courses.
In many cases, holding an advanced City & Guilds qualification is worth credits that allow students to be exempt from attending 1st year courses in the corresponding fields of study.
