City & Guilds Business Studies suite of qualifications is a comprehensive and contemporary programme that aims at measuring candidates’ ability to comprehend the internal operations of an enterprise.

Those interested in acquiring a broad overview of business activity. It also targets those wishing to work in administrative positions, though they may have no previous work experience, and need a broad and well-rounded knowledge of the business environment.
At the same time, it targets those desiring to develop certain skills which will allow them to operate efficiently in a wide range of business circumstances.

What does the syllabus consist of?
The Business Studies qualification is offered at two (2) different levels and consists of the following material with the corresponding recommended hours of training preparation.
Level 1 (30 hours)
1. Basic principles of business theory
2. Business organisation
3. Business activity
4. People in business
5. Influences and controls in a business
Level 2 (60 hours)
1. The business framework
2. Structure and organisation of a business
3. Decision-making procedures, design and controls
4. People in business
5. Influences and controls in a business

How are candidates assessed?
Level 1
Written exam that lasts 1.5 hours and is divided into two parts:
a. 15 questions requiring short answers (35 marks)
b. 3 questions covering the rest of the syllabus (35 marks)
Level 2
Written exam that lasts 2 hours and is divided into two parts:
a. 12 questions requiring short answers (30 marks)
b. 3 questions covering the rest of the syllabus (40 marks)
The marks from parts 1 and 2 are added to obtain the final mark.
Exams are marked by Authorized City & Guilds examiners.

How are the exams marked?
Candidates need a total percentage of 54% to obtain a “Pass”.
To get a “First Class Pass” candidates need a total of 70%.
How is exam reliability ensured?
City & Guilds examinations are held at Authorized City & Guilds Centres.
Authorized City & Guilds Centres fulfil high quality standards and implement strictly supervised exam procedures at every level of service.
Exams are always held in the presence of an Authorized Invigilator, who ensures that all standards and procedures are strictly observed.
Results are issued approximately 20 days following the examination date.
The certificates are issued by the City & Guilds Organisation.
